Amy Kimmel is a Tallahassee native with a passion for all things birth. She is owner of In Bloom Birth Services and juggles life at home with two young girls, keeping it all balanced with the help of her husband, James. While working towards her certification with CAPPA, she has found that supporting and teaching mothers in the joy of birth is more rewarding than she could ever imagine. Brooke Veleber is a DONA trained doula and Registered Nurse. Brooke graduated from Samford University in 2003 with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. For over 10 years, Brooke has supported women through hundreds of births, first as a labor and delivery nurse at TMH and now as a doula. She offers a supplemental birth photography package to her doula clients. Helping mamas succeed in breastfeeding is one of her passions as well. Brooke is married to Todd and mama to 4 boys. Brooke has given birth once by cesarean, and had two vaginal births after cesarean. In her spare time, she enjoys baking and spending time with her family. Celeste Bracey, CLC, became a DONA trained birth doula in 2010, when she trained under fellow doula Melissa Harley. Because birth is something a mom will never forget, she hopes to help moms and their partners have a positive labor and birth. She is also a Certified Lactation Counselor and enjoys assisting moms and babies, so that they can have a successful breastfeeding relationship. Celeste is passionate about all things related to pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding. She feels it is an honor to be a part of the journey with women and their partners during such a transformative part of their lives. Emily Geyer is a DONA trained doula who attended her first birth in 2009 when she was 7 months pregnant with her first daughter. That beautiful experience led to more years of encouraging friends in pregnancy and birth and she officially launched Abiding Birth Doula Services in 2015. To abide means to endure, sustain, accept and to remain steadfast and faithful. Emily believes all women deserve this kind of support and comfort during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum season. She also enjoys spending time with her family and homeschooling her two daughters. When she can find quiet time she loves reading, cooking, crafting, knitting, sewing, hiking and backpacking. Heather Futrell has been assisting and empowering women since 2014, training with DONA to become a doula shortly after the birth of her first daughter. She is also a birth assistant at a local birthing center. Heather has always had a passion for childbirth but was inspired at her own birth to become a doula and begin giving unbiased, compassionate, and continuous support to women and their partners. Working with women in labor and birth has opened Heather’s eyes to the power women have within and it has really inspired her to help families have better birth experiences in and out of the hospital. The journey of parenthood is an incredible experience and she is always honored when chosen to play a part in it. LeAnn Lett, CD(DONA), CLC, is a DONA certified birth doula and certified lactation counselor, a mother of two little girls, owner of Sweet Magnolia Birth Services, and the leader of the Tallahassee chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network. After the emergency cesarean birth of her first daughter in 2009 and seeing the impact labor and birth can have on a woman, she became determined to help other mothers feel empowered in their pregnancies and births. In 2011 she welcomed her second daughter, born by VBAC and supported by an amazing doula. She holds a forensic science degree from UCF but is happy to now be a stay-at-home mom when not attending births. She enjoys kayaking and hiking with her husband and girls. Leslee Boldman, CD(DONA), CLC, is a DONA certified doula, certified lactation counselor, and owner of Bold Birth and Bold Baby Knits. She has been a birth doula since 2005, serving families through the journey to parenthood. Her favorite part of being a doula is witnessing the birth of a new family. She and her husband have two children. In her free time, Leslee enjoys spending time with family, playing board games with friends, and reading. Lindsey VanAlstyne, CD(BFW), a Birthing From Within mentor and certified doula, is owner of Mother Rising Birth Services. She has been a doula since 2007 and began teaching Birthing From Within childbirth classes at the Birth Cottage in 2010. She enjoys serving Tallahassee and its surrounding areas by offering physical, educational, and emotional support to women and their families during the childbearing year. She believes that every woman can experience pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood not only as transformative, but also as a time when women can unlock new found strength in themselves. Melissa Harley, AdvCD/BDT(DONA), LCCE, CLC, has been working with birthing women since bearing witness to the vaginal birth of her twin nieces in early 2002. As a doula and owner of Capital City Doula Services, Melissa has had the honor to support 100+ women and their families during labor. She is a DONA International certified doula and an approved doula trainer also with DONA International, and a certified lactation counselor. She currently holds leadership positions with DONA International as Southeastern US Director and Certification Committee Member. When not working with doula clients or mentoring new doulas, Melissa works as a Lamaze certified childbirth educator, empowering women to listen to their inner voice and acknowledge their own strength to birth. She is a contributor to several birthing publications including the Journal for Perinatal Education and Bearing Witness: Childbirth Stories Told By Doulas. Melissa and her husband Ken both came to Tallahassee via FSU and couldn’t leave the area’s beauty! Melissa has two children, and considers the season of motherhood a true blessing. Samantha Schlazer, CD(DONA), is a DONA certified birth doula. She has been a doula since 2006. She is a mother of four children, 2 boys and 2 girls. Three of her children were born at home and 1 at TMH. She fell in love with birth and supporting women shortly after the birth of her first child in 2005. Sam owns Wisdom of a Woman Doula Services and has offered support at over 200 births! She is a mama who loves supporting other mamas in their journey to motherhood. She also graduated FSU with a degree in Anthropology and has a deep respect and admiration for different cultures world wide and their birthing and parenting practices. It is her goal to support women in birthing their babies and feeling empowered as they do. She believes the best way to do this is to provide constant presence, respect, strength, and information to the woman as she is growing and birthing her baby. She enjoys homeschooling her children, spending time with her husband and friends, and reading new and exciting things about birth, parenting and women all over the world.
